WORCESTER, Mass. – A strong second half propelled the Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team to its first win of the season. The Wildcats went on the road to defeat Worcester State University, 13-8, on Wednesday.
Worcester State: 2-3
Johnson & Wales: 1-4
The hosts jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the game, but the Wildcats responded with four goals of their own.
Four Wildcats scored during the run, including the first collegiate goal of Heather Holley's collegiate career.
Dani Lydecker tallied a pair of goals in the final four minutes of the first half to help JWU take a 7-5 lead into the break.
Juliana Giello found the back of the net twice in the second half to stake the Wildcats to a 10-6 advantage it would not relinquish.
Johnson & Wales had a 15-7 advantage in draw controls and outshot the Lancers, 31-23.
Johnson & Wales starts conference action Saturday when it takes on Norwich University at 3 p.m.
