NEWTON, Mass. – For the third year in a row, the Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team finished the regular season undefeated in conference play. The Wildcats defeated the Pride of Regis College, 17-8, in the regular season finale on Wednesday.
Johnson & Wales: 13-4, GNAC 11-0
Regis College: 13-2, GNAC 10-1
JWU: Cassidy O'Hara (W 9-3) 10 Saves, 8 Goals
RC: Brittany McPhearsson (L 13-2) 13 Saves, 17 Goals
With the win, JWU has won 38-straight regular season GNAC games. The Wildcats haven't lost a regular season game since a 17-8 defeat to St. Joseph's (Me.) on March 26, 2016.
In regular Wildcats fashion, JWU gave up the first goal of the contest at the 28:02 mark. The Wildcats answered by going on a 5-0 run over the next seven minutes.
Dani Lydecker scored two of her three goals during the run while Allison Paziensk tallied two of her career-high seven goals.
Pazienski became the first JWU player to eclipse 100 points in a season and her record stands at 105. Lydecker recorded the 100th goal of her collegiate career.
Kerri Anselmo scored twice to cut the JWU lead to 6-4, but the Wildcats went on a 3-0 run to go into the half with a 9-4 lead.
For every goal the Pride scored in the second half, the Wildcats scored twofold and didn't stop until the final whistle. Maria Patane had a pair of second-half goals and Pazienski found the back of the net three times.
The Wildcats outshot the Pride, 44-21, won the draw control battle, 19-8, and outhustled the Pride on the ground 34-22.
The Wildcats host the #8 seed Norwich on Saturday at 1 p.m.
