The first half was a back-and-fourth battle. Wheaton scored three of the first five goals, but JWU answered with a 5-0 run, including two of Allison Pazienski's game-high six goals.
Pazienski and Maria Patane found the back of the net in the last 10 minutes to send JWU into the half with an 11-6 lead.
The second half was another foot race with 17 more goals scored between the two teams. Two more Pazienski goals pushed the JWU lead to 14-10 with 13:54 remaining, but the Lyons outscored the Wildcats, 7-1, over the next 10 minutes to grab a 17-15 lead.
Madeline Bashara scored a goal to come within one with 1:04 to play. The Wildcats won the ensuing draw control and with time ticking away, Pazienski found Juliana Giello inside the eight-meter, and she buried the tying goal in the net with 11 seconds left.
In overtime it was the Pazienski-Giello duo again that produced the game-winner. As Giello cut through the eight-meter, Pazienski got her the ball and she placed it past the Lyons' goalie with two seconds remaining on the clock.
The Wildcats travel to Rhodes College for a 5 pm game on Tuesday, February 26th.
