PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team wrapped up the GNAC regular season title in convincing fashion on Saturday. The Wildcats defeated Mount Ida, 17-6.
The victory was JWU's 26th-GNAC win in a row and makes the Wildcats the top seed for the upcoming GNAC Tournament. Johnson & Wales will be the home team for as long as it's in the tournament, which starts next Saturday.
Junior Allison Pazienski had a hat trick less than five minutes into the game as she scored JWU's first three goals. Maria Patane also added a trio of goals as the Wildcats jumped out to an 11-0 lead. Johnson & Wales went into the locker room with a 13-2 lead.
Pazienski surpassed her career-high with a game-best six goals. Patane was next with five points (four goals, one assist). Cassidy O'Hara made eight saves to get the victory.
Keeping the Mustangs in the game was goalkeeper Eleanor Garvey. She set a season-high with 23 saves. Alyssa Kelly and Brooke Scahill led the Mustangs with a pair of goals.
Johnson & Wales is back at home on Monday to take on Fitchburg State at 4 p.m.
