ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 9-0 run during the middle of the first half was the difference in the women's lacrosse game on Wednesday between Johnson & Wales University and Capital University. The Crusaders prevailed 19-5 over the Wildcats.
The loss dropped the Wildcats' record to 1-1 while Capital improved to 1-1.
A Kathy Ensor (St. Louis, Mo.) goal pulled Johnson & Wales within 3-2 at the 19:07 mark of the first half. Unfortunately, the Wildcats would not score for the next 18 minutes as the Crusaders rattled off nine-straight goals.
Johnson & Wales got five goals from five different players. Senior Kayla Smith (Eastham, Mass.) was the only Wildcat to score more than one point. She scored JWU's first goal of the game then assisted on Juliana Giello's (Warwick, NY) score with 55 seconds left in the opening half.
Ensor and Madeline Bishara (Saunderstown, RI) had a game-high three ground balls each as JWU had a 12-11 edge in that category. Capital dominated in shots (28-13) and draw controls (20-6).
Johnson & Wales wraps up its spring break on Monday when it takes on Drew at 11 a.m.
