Women’s Ice Hockey tops Castleton 2-1

RUTLAND, Vt. – Last year the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team made history with their first postseason victory. This year they will accomplish another first as they will host their first home playoff game after defeating Castleton University, 2-1, on Friday.

Records:
Castleton University: 12-9-3, 9-4-2 NEHC
Johnson & Wales: 11-9-4, 8-4-3 NEHC

Goaltenders:
CU: Alexis Kalm (L, 10-9-2) 40 Saves
JWU: Jasmine Mucci (W, 7-5-2) 27 Saves

Statistical Leaders:
Hannah Tracy (JWU): 1 Goals
Cassidy Simanski (JWU) 1 Goal (GW)
Kathryn Mason (JWU): 2 Assists

Of Note:
With the win, Johnson & Wales has 19 points in the NEHC standings. With one game left, UMass Boston and Southern Maine are tied with 16 points and cannot catch the Wildcats. JWU will host the sixth-place team at Lynch Arena on Saturday, February 22 at 4 pm.

The 11 wins breaks the school record for victories in a season.

Tied at 1-1 in the third period, Cassie Wakefield slid the puck out to Cassidy Simanski and her slap shot found the back of the net for the game-winner.

The Spartans snuck the puck past JWU goalie Jasmine Mucci in the closing minutes of the first period, but that would be their own score of the game.

JWU got on the board with four minutes left in the second period when Hannah Tracy jammed in the rebound of Taylor Davis' shot. It was Tracy's 15th goal of the year, breaking the single-season record.

The Wildcats finish the regular season Saturday when they face #6 Norwich at 1 p.m.
