Women’s Ice Hockey Tops Salem State 4-1

SALEM, Mass. – Needing a win to stay in the race for a first-round home NEHC playoff game, the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team came through at Salem State University on Friday. The Wildcats defeated the Vikings, 4-1.

Of Note:
After a scoreless first period, Salem State got the opening goal less than two minutes into the second period, but it was all Johnson & Wales from there.

First-year Koryn Russell found the back of the net at the 7:48 mark. Her 12 goals are a JWU rookie record and rank her third in the NEHC.

Five minutes later, Drea Westgaard lit the lamp with the eventual game-winning goal.

Kathryn Mason scored an insurance goal in the third period then Hannah Tracy added an empty-netter.

The Wildcats return home Saturday to face New England College at 6:55 p.m. Prior to the game, the Wildcats will honor the five seniors on this year's team.
