Wildcats Fall 4-3 to Castleton in NEHC Semifinals

CASTLETON, Vt. – The most successful season in the four-year history of the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team came to a conclusion Saturday. The Wildcats lost a 4-3 decision to Castleton in the semifinals of the NEHC Tournament.

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales gave up a trio second-period goals that dug a hole it could not recover from.

The Spartans opened the scoring in the first period, but the Wildcats answered on a Samantha Kawejsza goal at the 16:57 mark.

Three goals were scored in the first four minutes of the second period. After Castleton scored 34 seconds into the period, Kawejsza found the back of the net for the second time with another assist from Drea Westgaard. Unfortunately, the Spartans scored again 30 seconds later then added the game-winner at the 14:10 mark.

JWU got back into the game with Cassie Wakefield's power play goal 1:03 into the third period, but the Wildcats could not come up with the equalizer.

Second-year head coach Natalie Zitek will have to replace the seven seniors that help start the program four years ago.
