PLYMOUTH, NH. –The Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team's early goal turned out to be the only one they would need to win their third game in a row. The Wildcats picked up a 1-0 road win against Plymouth State on Saturday.
Plymouth State: 3-13-13, 2-6-3
Johnson & Wales: 6-12-3, 4-7-1
PSU: Emilie Lindqvist (L 2-6-1) – 25 saves
JWU: Jasmine Mucci (W 5-10-3) – 32 Saves
JWU: Drea Westgaard – 1 Goal
The game's only goal came eight minutes into the first period. Drea Westgaard stole the puck at the center line, skated past a defender and beat PSU goalie Emile Lindqvist on the short side. It's her game-winning goal of the year.
The second and third periods were a battle. While the Panthers did outshoot the Wildcats, 32-26, they could not connect for the equalizing goal.
Jasmine Mucci stopped all 32 shots she faced for her first collegiate shutout.
JWU returns to the ice on Friday when it takes on Salem State at Lynch Arena for a 3:55 pm puck drop.
