WORCESTER, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team came back in the third period to tie Becker, 2-2, on Saturday. With seconds left in regulation, Victoria Perez got her first goal of the season to take the game into overtime.
Johnson & Wales: 1-6-2, 1-4-1, NEHC
Becker College: 0-6-2, 0-3-1, CHC
JWU: Jasmine Mucci (T, 1-5-2) 23 saves
BC: Julia Johnson (T, 0-3-1) 50 saves
Johnson & Wales found itself down 2-0 midway through the third period. The Hawks scored both of their goals on the power play.
The Wildcats struck back three minutes later with Kathryn Mason cutting the lead to, 2-1. The Grafton, Mass. native has scored a goal in three of the last four games.
With the clock running down, the Wildcats fought for opportunities. They got a chance on the power play when Perez found the back of the net off the Kathy Ensor pass. The goal was scored with 19 seconds left to play, taking both teams into overtime.
JWU doubled up Becker in shots, 52-26, but Hawks' goalie Julia Johnson made 50 saves.
The two teams are back on the ice Sunday at Lynch Arena with the puck drop at 4:05 pm.
