BURRILLVILLE, RI – An overtime goal ended the season for the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team. McKenna Gernander scored a power play goal 26 seconds into overtime to defeat the Wildcats in the quarterfinals of the CHC playoffs.
Johnson & Wales: 9-13-4
NC: Cassandra Coyette - 26 Saves, 1 Goal
JWU: Kami Weiner – 28 Saves, 2 Goals
Neither team was able to score for the first 35 minutes of the game. JWU got on the board first with a power play goal at the 15:19 mark.
Cassidy Simanski kept the puck in the Nichols' end as the Bison tried to clear it into the JWU zone. Simanski fed the puck to Julia Martinsson and her shot was stopped, but Kathryn Mason was there to put back the rebound for her 11th goal of the season.
The Wildcats should take another step forward next season as first-year head coach Natalie Zitek only loses one player, but she'll have to replace starting goaltender Kami Weiner.
