WINCHENDON, Mass.– A four-goal deficit was too much for the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team to overcome. The Wildcats dropped a 4-2 decision to Division II Franklin Pierce on Sunday.
Franklin Pierce: 8-6-1
Johnson & Wales: 4-8-3
FPU: Kelly Turney (3-3-1) 10 Saves, 2 Goals
JWU: Kami Weiner (4-8-3), 42 Saves, 4 Goals
The Ravens got a pair of goals less than a minute apart during the first period. Franklin Pierce added a goal in the second and third periods. FPU controlled play for most of the afternoon with a 46-12 advantage in shots.
Johnson & Wales only got three shots on net in the third period, but two went in. Cassie Wakefield (North Vancouver, BC) scored her first goal of the season when she put home the one-timer off the pass from Kathryn Mason (Grafton, Mass.).
After setting up two goals on Saturday, Julia Martinsson (Charlottenberg, Sweden) tallied one of her own on Sunday. She scored with a wrist shot from the left circle that caught the top left-hand corner of the goal.
The Wildcats return home for a pair of games next weekend, starting Friday with a 6:55 pm contest against Salve Regina.
