Wildcats Lose 6-3 Shootout at Salve Regina

PORTSMOUTH, RI – The Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team got within a goal of Salve Regina on Friday, but the Seahawks pulled away for the victory. Salve Regina downed the Wildcats, 6-3.

Of Note:
Linn Fernström  (Karlstad, Sweden) opened the scoring with a power play goal at the 6:11 mark of the first period. It's her second goal of the season.

Salve Regina scored two goals within 78 seconds of each other in the first period then got another goal 29 seconds into the third period.

Drea Westgaard (Elk River, Minn.) scored her team-leading sixth goal four minutes later to cut the SRU lead to 3-2. The Seahawks answered, but Kathryn Mason (Grafton, Mass.) got JWU within 4-3 with 9:14 remaining. Unfortunately, Salve Regina scored twice to seal the victory.
