WORCESTER, Mass. – After scoring two goals each in the first period, neither the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team nor Becker could come up with another goal. The Wildcats and Hawks skated to a 2-2 tie on Saturday.
Becker: 1-4-1, 1-1-1 CHC
Johnson & Wales: 0-5-2, 0-3-2 CHC
BC: Madison Rigby (2-0-1) 25 Saves, 2 Goals
JWU: Kami Weiner (0-5-1), 23, Saves, 2 Goals
Becker got on the board first, but the Wildcats answered by taking advantage of a power play. Victoria Perez (Livonia, Mich.) scored her first goal of the season with Taylor Davis (Windsor, NY) and Cassie Wakefield (North Vancouver, BC) getting the assists.
JWU took a temporary lead when Kathryn Mason (Grafton, Mass.) scored at the 16:41 mark. However, JWU gave up the tying goal with 59 seconds remaining in the period.
The Wildcats had several opportunities in the third period to pull ahead, but Becker goalie Madison Rigby came up with 14 saves. The Hawks outshot JWU, 5-1, in overtime, but Kami Weiner (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) turned away all five.
Johnson & Wales and Becker meet again on Sunday when the Wildcats welcome the Hawks to Lynch Arena for a 1:40 p.m. contest.
