CANTON, NY – Two third period goals by SUNY Canton after the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team pulled to within one prevented a comeback by the Wildcats. The Roos downed Johnson & Wales, 4-1, on Friday.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 4-18 overall, 4-7 in the Colonial Hockey Conference. SUNY Canton improved to 6-15-1 and 6-4-1 in the league.
The Roos got on the board first with a pair of goals in the opening period. Five and a half minutes into the third, Katya Klinoff (Concord, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal to pull Johnson & Wales within a goal. Kathy Ensor (St. Louis, Mo.) and Madisan Millar (Anchorage, Alaska) assisted on the goal. Unfortunately, SUNY Canton responded with two goals of its own to seal the victory.
Despite turning away 29 shots, JWU goalie Kami Weiner (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) took the loss. Her record fell to 4-18. The 29 saves moved Weiner up to second on the NCAA single-season saves list with 1,047 for the year. She is 135 saves from the record.
The two teams are back on the ice Saturday when they complete their weekend series at 2 p.m.
