SALEM, Mass. – Summer Britton has Salem State's number. After scoring both goals Thursday night in the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team's victory over the Vikings, she scored the game-winner Friday as the Wildcats downed the Vikings, 2-0.
Johnson & Wales won its second-straight Colonial Hockey Conference series to improve to 4-15 overall and 4-6 in the conference. SSU dropped to 3-14, 2-6 in the CHC.
Neither team found the back of the net during the first 32 minutes of play until Britton (Fairbanks, Alaska) beat SSU keeper Jenn Toussaint at the 12:53 mark of the second period. Caitlin Sweet (Calgary, Alberta) assisted on the goal. Britton leads JWU and is tied for sixth in the CHC with eight goals.
Goalie Kami Weiner (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) recorded her second shutout of the year as she turned away all 32 shots she faced. She's moved up to eighth on the NCAA Division III single season charts with 924 saves this year.
Forward Alexis Harle (Calgary, Alberta) added an insurance goal with six seconds left in the third period to secure the victory for the Wildcats. It was her first goal since November 28 as she missed seven games with an injury.
The Wildcats are back on the ice next weekend when they host Sacred Heart for a pair of games on February 5 & 6.
