MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Even though it was missing its leading scorer, the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team found a way to score a season-high three goals. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough as the Wildcats loss 6-3 at Becker on Saturday.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 0-14 overall, 0-6 in the Colonial Hockey Conference. The Hawks swept the season series to improve to 2-11, 2-4 in the league.
Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Caitlin Sweet (Calgary, Alberta) scored her second goal of the season when she tallied a power play goal at the 6:25 mark. Tamara Bowden (Weymouth, Mass.) had the assist. Becker answered with another goal to take the lead at the first intermission.
The Wildcats scored twice in the first seven minutes of the second period to take just their second lead of the season. Molly Gray (Bozeman, Mont.) scored her first collegiate goal at the 2:06 mark. Five minutes later, another first goal was recorded when Victoria Perez (Livonia, Mich.) notched a power play goal with Kathy Ensor (St. Louis, MO.) providing the assist.
However, Becker responded with two goals in the second and a pair of Ann Marie Manganiello tallies in the third to secure the victory. The Hawks outshot the Wildcats, 56-26.
