Voorheesville, NY. – The Johnson & Wales University women's golf team had their second look at the Colonie Country Club golf course on the final day of the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship on Sunday. The Wildcats improved by ten strokes from the previous day and improved their standing to fourth overall as they shot a 381. JWU's combined score ended up a 772, only a stroke behind third place Suffolk.
SUNY Cortland was outstanding on both days as they shot a 347 on day one and a 340 on day two to run away with the championship with a 687. Utica, the runner up, notched a combined 764 while Suffolk tallied 771.
Alexis Anastos led the Wildcats with a stellar two-day performance that found her third overall in the tournament and a place on the NWGC all-conference first team. Anastos shot a 167 over the two day tournament, three back from the runner up and fourteen back from the overall champion. Danielle Bambola, from Suny Cortland, took the overall individual title while Nicole Krause from Manhattanville was the runner up.
Ashley Lewis finished tied for 17th as she shot a 195 total with a seven stroke improvement from the first day of the tournament. Hannah Lifschin took four off of her first score and finished with a 204. Emily Schiesser finished with a 206.
The Wildcats now shift their focus to the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association championships on Sunday, October 20th at the Captain's Course in Brewster, Massachusetts.
