South Hadley, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University women's golf team improved by a stroke on Sunday at the Mount Holyoke Invitational at Orchards Golf Course. The Wildcats landed a 422 on day two and finished with a 845 overall and a 13th place finish in their opening tournament of the 2019 season.
Williams College led from start to finish in this one as they posted a 306 on the first day and 293 on the second. Their total of 599 was 23 strokes better then the nearest competitors NYU and Middlebury, who both shot a collective 622 on the course.
JWU's Alexis Anastos had another solid showing as she posted a three stroke improvemnt from the previous day with a 92. Ashley Lewis shot nine strokes better then the day before with a 100 and teammate Emily Schiesser bettered her previous by a stroke as well with a 108. Hannah Lifschin rounded out the squad with a 112.
Lou Parente, JWU's skipper, commented, "It was a great weekend to start the season. Our first years handled thmeselves very well in a very big event to begin their careers. We have a few things we'll get working on this week in preparation for our matches next week."
The Wildcats are back on the links on Saturday at Valley Country Club where they'll see Rhode Island College and Westfield State.
