PROVIDENCE, RI – After falling behind early, the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team mounted a comeback at Emmanuel College but it wasn't enough. The Wildcats dropped a 68-56 decision to the Saints on Tuesday.
Emmanuel: 14-7, 6-2 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 10-19, 2-5 GNAC
Johnson & Wales dug itself a 19-4 hole just midway through the first quarter. JWU chipped away at the deficit and cut it to 33-24 at the half on a Britney Gallagher three-pointer.
The Saints pushed the lead back up to double digits in the second half. Gallagher's traditional three-point play with 1:44 left sliced the margin to 63-56. Emmanuel sealed the victory by making all six of its free throws down the stretch.
Topping all scorers was Gallagher as she had 20 points for her third 20-point game of the year. Maddy Moro produced a 10-point, 16-rebound double-double.
Emmanuel's defensive pressure caused problems for the Wildcats as they committed 26 turnovers that the Saints converted into 24 points.
Johnson & Wales is on the road Wednesday to face Anna Maria at 5:30 p.m.
