NEW LONDON, NH – A slow start doomed the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team on Saturday. The Wildcats dropped a 72-46 GNAC decision at Colby-Sawyer College.
Colby-Sawyer: 12-5, 2-2 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 10-9, 2-3 GNAC
The Chargers stormed out to a 23-4 lead after the first quarter thanks to 17 points from Lexie Hamilton.
JWU sliced the lead to 33-19 on a Mia James layup, but CSC took a 36-21 advantage into the locker room.
Topping the Wildcats in the scoring column was Britney Gallagher with 11 points. Tara Murphy came off the bench to score 10 points and Maddy Moro just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Johnson & Wales was limited to 29.3 percent shooting (17-of-58) and just 30 percent from behind the arc.
Johnson & Wales returns to the Wildcat Center to face Suffolk at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
