PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Visiting Brandeis University was hot from the floor as they took down the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team. The Judges defeated the Wildcats, 83-55, on Saturday.
Johnson & Wales: 6-2
Cheyenne Lee knocked down a jumper with 1:39 remaining in the first quarter to pull the Wildcats within 25-22. The Judges started the second period on a 10-2 run that was capped by a Camila Casanueva jumper to put the extend the visitors' lead to 35-24. The lead grew to as many as 14 with Brandeis taking a 48-34 lead into the half.
The Judges extended their lead to 68-47 after the third period and squashed any chances of a JWU comeback by keeping the Wildcats off the scoreboard for the first three minutes of the final quarter. JWU went cold offensively in the second half, shooting just 9-of-35 (26 percent).
Brandeis had a balanced scoring attack with five players scoring seven or more points, topped by Hannah Nicholson's game-high 20 points. Lauren Rubinstein came off the bench to contribute 12 points.
The Judges also benefited from the free throw line where they made more shots (18-of-20) than the Wildcats took (3-of-6). Brandeis also shot 50 percent (30-of-60) to the Wildcats' 24-of-68 (35.3 percent).
JWU wraps up a four-game homestand Wednesday against Thomas at 6:30 p.m.
