Women’s Basketball Upended by Simmons 70-62

BOSTON – A second-half surge by Simmons University pushed the Sharks past the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team on Saturday. The Wildcats dropped a 70-62 decision.

Johnson & Wales: 6-19, 5-7 GNAC

Statistical Leaders:
Ally Mishol (JWU): 12 points, 6 rebounds
Dede Stevenson (JWU): 13 points
Marissa Cottrell (JWU): 13 points, 6 rebounds

Of Note:
Tara Murphy scored six of her nine points in the second quarter to help JWU go into the locker room up 27-21.

A Marissa Cottrell jumper midway through the third quarter put the Wildcats up 39-28. Unfortunately, they were outscored 18-7 to end the period. Britney Gallagher tied the game at 50-50 three minutes into the fourth, but the Sharks went on an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Simmons controlled the glass with a 49-36 rebounding advantage. The Sharks grabbed 17 offensive rebounds that they converted into 19 second-chance points.

Cottrell and Dede Stevenson tied for the team lead with 13 points. Ally Mishol was next with 12 points.

Johnson & Wales is the eighth-seed for the GNAC Tournament and will travel to Saint Joseph's (Me) on Tuesday for a 6 pm tipoff.
