WINTHROP, Mass. – The last couple of weeks, few players in the GNAC, freshman in particular, have been playing as well as Johnson & Wales University women's basketball rookie Dede Stevenson. On Monday, she collected her second GNAC Rookie of the Week award in the last three weeks.
The Hartford, Conn. native has won the honor more times than any other GNAC rookie this season. Her three awards are the most by a JWU rookie since Ashley Thompson in 2014-15. Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda was named Player of the Week.
Stevenson averaged 19 points, 6.5 rebounds and two steals while shooting 47 percent in a pair of games last week. She tied her career-high with 30 points to go with eight boards and three steals against No. 11 Saint Joseph's (Me.). Stevenson also had eight points and five rebounds against conference powerhouse Emmanuel.
The Wildcats go on the road Tuesday to face Lasell at 5:30 p.m.
