Women’s Basketball Storms Back to Beat Rivier 88-83 in OT

NASHUA, NH – Tara Murphy put back an offensive rebound with two seconds left to send Johnson & Wales University and Rivier University into overtime. The JWU women's basketball team outscored Rivier 7-0 in the last minute of the extra period as the Wildcats defeated the Raiders, 88-83, on Thursday.

Of Note:
JWU trailed 76-71 with 1:16 left in regulation. Cheyenne Lee made a jumper to cut the lead to 76-73. Dede Stevenson was fouled with two seconds remaining. She made the first, but missed the second. Murphy was there to snag the rebound and put it back to send the game into overtime.

Kaylee Kacavas scored the last of her game-high 35 points to put the Raiders up 83-81 with 1:16 left in overtime. Stevenson made a three-pointer to put the Wildcats ahead, 84-83, then hit all four of her free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the victory.

The Wildcats trailed 45-43 at halftime, but outscored Rivier 20-15 in the third quarter to take a three-point lead.

Four Wildcats reached double figures, led by Ally Mishol's team-high 22 points. Stevenson was next with 13 points while dishing out four assists. Gabrielle Nicastri came off the bench to grab a career-high 11 rebounds.

JWU tied a season-high with 10 three pointers.

The Wildcats only had one more turnover than the Raiders (16-15), but points off turnovers favored Rivier, 24-10.
