PROVIDENCE, RI. – A starter from day one, Johnson & Wales University senior Raquel Pederzani was almost destined to become the school's all-time leading scorer. A three-pointer at the 3:15 mark of the third quarter broke the record as the Wildcats ran away with a 69-42 decision over Mount Ida on Tuesday.

Pederzani broke the previous record of 1,380 set by Alexia Ramirez from 2007-10. In addition to the points record, Pederzani is the JWU all-time leader in assists and steals. She led all scorers with 15 points -- putting the new record at 1,383 – to go along with seven rebounds and seven assists.
Johnson & Wales got out to a fast start thanks to strong defense in the first quarter. Ally Mishol hit a basket before the end of the first quarter then Bobbie Whitehead added a jumper 30 seconds into the second stanza to stake the Wildcats to a 21-5 lead. JWU limited the Mustangs to 18 percent (4-22) shooting to take a 28-13 lead into the locker room.
While the Mustangs shot better in the second half, JWU limited the visitors to just 30 percent shooting the entire night. JWU also controlled the game inside, producing a 47-29 rebounding advantage as well as 24 points in the paint.
Mount Ida was topped by Valerie Martin at 10 points followed by Jaime Moscato with eight. Imani Bumpus pulled in five rebounds.
Johnson & Wales goes on the road Thursday to take on Emmanuel at 7:30 p.m
