NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Poor shooting did in the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team on Saturday. The Wildcats dropped a 72-55 contest at Albertus Magnus.
Albertus Magnus: 11-5, 5-3 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 10-7, 6-2 GNAC
Down four going into the fourth quarter, Britney Gallagher (New City, NY) cut the margin to 46-44 just 27 seconds into the final frame. After the Falcons built the lead to 58-49, Johnson & Wales cut it to five (60-55) on an Ally Mishol (Longmeadow, Mass.) three-pointer with 3:38 remaining. Unfortunately, that would be the Wildcats last basket the rest of the game.
Johnson & Wales struggled in all facets of shooting, going 28.4 percent from the floor, 31.3 percent behind the arc and 53.3 percent at the free throw line. AMC outscored the Wildcats, 38-22, for points in the paint.
Mishol produced her third double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, RI) was JWU's top scorer with 13 points and Sarah Duryea (Middle Village, NY) followed with 12.
Johnson & Wales is home on Thursday to take on Suffolk at 7 p.m.
