PROVIDENCE, RI – Despite two players with 20 or more points, the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team couldn't take down Division I foe Brown University on Friday. The Wildcats dropped a 100-79 decision to the Bears.
Johnson & Wales: 6-5
A trio of free throws by senior guard Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, RI) at the end of the first quarter pulled the Wildcats within 20-18. Unfortunately, Brown would outscore JWU, 34-14, in the second quarter on its way to a 54-32 halftime lead. JWU did outscore Brown, 47-46, in the second half.
Over 50 percent of the Wildcats' offense came from Pederzani and guard Sarah Duryea (Middle Village, NY). Pederzani just missed a triple-double with 20 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Duryea poured in a career-high 22 points, including six three-pointers. JWU made a season-high 13 three-pointers.
Johnson & Wales gets back into conference action on Saturday when it travels to Saint Joseph's for a 5 p.m. contest.
