INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Even though she didn't have a chance to complete her season, Johnson & Wales University softball student-athlete Devin Scales is garnering attention for her efforts. The junior was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 team.
A native of Mount Airy, Md., she is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration. Scales has a 3.95 grade point average in baking & pastry arts. In order to be nominated, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 grade point average.
With the spring season cut short, CoSIDA based this year's recipients on career accolades. In just over two seasons, Scales has a career .343 batting average with 34 RBIs and five home runs. Her 13 doubles ranks fourth in school history.
Before the 2020 campaign was halted, Scales was out to a fast start with a .471 batting average in 10 games that include five doubles and 15 RBIs. She went 5-for-8 with three runs scored and two RBIs in a doubleheader at Salve Regina.
It's the fourth year in a row that a softball student-athlete has been recognized by CoSIDA. Ally Mishol earned all-district honors in 2019 and Scales will try to join Katie Rufo and Emily Gorecki as Academic All-Americans.
