CLERMONT, Fla. – The Johnson & Wales University softball team let a pair of victories slip away late in the game on Tuesday. The Wildcats surrendered eight runs in the eighth inning to fall 11-3 to Wartburg College in the season opener. JWU then dropped a 7-3 decision to No. 8 Trine University.

Sydney Illg delivered a two-out single in the top of the seventh to score Leah Campos.
JWU made three errors in the eighth and gave up seven hits. Haley Barkau and Katelyn Halbach each drove in a pair of runs.
The Wildcats got on the board in the top of the first against Trine. Kaelani Gamble got a single then Summer Ramundo drew a walk. Pulek followed with a three-run home run. She is the first JWU player in 10 years to hit a home run on her first day as a Wildcat.
The Thunder got four runs in the fourth off Ramundo, who was saddle with the loss, then tacked on three-more off Kristin Frost in the sixth.
The Wildcats take on Moravian (10:15 AM) and New England College (12:30 PM) on Wednesday.
