Softball’s Season Ends with 3-2 Loss to the Monks in GNAC Tournament

BOSTON – A fifth-straight GNAC Championship was not in the cards for the Johnson & Wales University softball team. The Wildcats were eliminated from the conference tournament, 3-2, by Saint Joseph's College of Maine Friday night.

St. Joseph's: 13-22
Johnson & Wales: 21-20

Statistical Leaders:
Megan Antaya (JWU): 2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI

Of Note:
Megan Antaya started the game with a single and an error moved her to second. A sac bunt got Antaya to third then Ally Mishol's ground out brought in the first run.

After the Monks tied the game in the third, Antaya gave the Wildcats the lead back in the fifth. She ripped the ball to the right field fence and raced all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run.

The lead was short lived as SJC scored twice in the bottom of the fifth off reliever Kristin Frost, who took the loss.

JWU had its chances to tie the game in the sixth and seventh innings, but SJC third baseman Kaylee Burns turned a double play in the sixth then snared a sharply hit ground ball by Meghan Gavin to end the game.

Head coach Kim Camara-Harvey should have another strong team in 2020 as she brings back all of her pitchers. She will have to replace her entire starting infield, including four-year starters Gavin and Brenna DuPerry.
