PROVIDENCE, RI – A strong pitching performance from Kristin Frost advanced the Johnson & Wales University softball team in the GNAC Tournament. The Wildcats defeated Albertus Magnus College, 2-0, on Tuesday.
Albertus Magnus: 19-17
Johnson & Wales: 21-18
With the victory, the Wildcats advance to the double elimination portion of the GNAC Tournament. They will face Saint Joseph's (Conn.) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The game will be played at Simmons University.
For the third time in a week, Frost was nearly unhittable. She struck out 11 batters while only surrendering four hits. Albertus Magnus didn't get a runner into scoring position until the fifth inning.
Senior Brenna DuPerry led off the third with a single up the middle, moved up to second on a Megan Antaya single then went to third on a sacrifice bunt. Ally Mishol's single to left allowed DuPerry to score.
The Falcons had their chances in the fifth and sixth innings. Frost got Madison LaBossiere to strikeout with runners on second and third in the fifth. AMC had a runner on third with one out in the sixth but Frost induced a pop up then struck out Marissa Guglielmi to end the inning.
