Saints Rally To Sweep Doubleheader From JWU Softball

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Emmanuel softball team fought back from the verge of being run-ruled to take both games of Saturday's GNAC doubleheader at Johnson & Wales University. The Saints took game one, 8-2, then the second game, 12-10, in eight innings.

Emmanuel: 22-12, 13-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 18-18, 9-5 GNAC

Statistical Leaders:
Meghan Gavin (JWU): 2-3 (GM 1)
Kerry Sendrick (EC): 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI (GM 1)
Devin Scales (JWU): 3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI (GM 2)
Yuleska Ramirez-Tejada (EC): 2-4, 2 R, 6 RB (GM 2)

Of Note:
The Saints chased JWU starter Saxon Bresnahan out of the game in the first inning as they put up four runs. Kerry Sendrick drove in a pair with a bases-loaded double.

Johnson & Wales had its chances, putting a runner on base in every inning. The Wildcats didn't push a run across until the third when Brenna DuPerry's sacrifice fly scored Kristin Frost.

Summer Ramundo added a solo home run in the fourth, but it was not enough as Emmanuel starter Megan Kieselback went the distance to pick up her 10th win of the year.

JWU turned the tables in the first inning of game two as they sent 10 batters to the plate on their way to scoring six runs. Ally Mishol drilled her GNAC-leading seventh home run and Megan Antaya added a two-run double.

The Wildcats amassed a 9-2 lead on a Devin Scales home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

From there the Saints rallied to score seven runs in their next two at-bats thanks to right fielder Yuleska Ramirez-Tejada. She hit a two-run home run in the sixth then a grand slam in the seventh.

Emmanuel got a trio of runs in the eighth via a Kerry Sendrick home run.

JWU got a run back in the bottom of the eighth on a Meghan Gavin groundout, but EC pitcher Mikaela Montemagni – who came on in the first inning after the Wildcats chased starter Olivia Burgos out of the game – got the final two outs to record the victory.
