PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University softball team couldn't hold onto a lead in game one at Eastern Connecticut State University and couldn't mount a comeback in game two. The Wildcats lost the opener, 7-4, then fell 6-4 in game two on Tuesday.
Eastern Connecticut State: 21-7
Johnson & Wales: 13-15
Johnson & Wales jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the fourth inning of game one. Ally Mishol picked up a single in the first inning that allowed Meghan Gavin to come around to score. Mishol crossed the plate on a Devin Scales sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, Gavin reached on a one-out single. Scales hit her third home run in a week to bring home Gavin.
JWU quickly fell behind in game two, giving up a run in first and four more in the second off starter Saxon Bresnahan, who took the loss.
ECSU starter Haleigh Cardello handed the Wildcats three runs in the third as she issued three wild pitches. Kayla McKinnon wrapped up the scoring with a single to plate Scales.
The Wildcats had their chances to tie the game as they put a runner on base in the final four innings, including a runner in scoring position in both the fourth and seventh innings.
JWU gets back into conference action Thursday when it travels to Regis for a 3 pm doubleheader.
