PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University softball team got the offense going Sunday on its way to a GNAC doubleheader sweep of Lasell College. The Wildcats took the opener, 8-0, in six innings then completed the sweep with the 8-3 win in game two.
Lasell: 3-17, 0-4 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 11-11, 3-1 GNAC
It was a constant barrage of offense in game one as the Wildcats scored in all five of their last at-bats.
JWU worked the long ball as all six of its last runs came via home run. Summer Ramundo hit a two-run bomb in the third then Ally Mishol followed with one in third and another in the sixth. Devin Scales hit her first collegiate home run in the fifth.
Pitcher Kristin Frost picked up her second shutout in as many days. She tossed five scoreless innings, giving up six hits with three strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Johnson & Wales did most of its damage in a four-run second inning. The big blow was a bases-clearing triple from Meghan Gavin. She had a pair of hits in both games.
Lasell got two runs back when Sarah Walton hit a two-run home run in the fourth. An inning later, Brenna DuPerry answered with a two-run triple.
Ramundo worked five innings to get the victory. She surrendered two runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Zoe Jennings got the final six outs.
JWU is off until Saturday when it travels to Simmons for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
