JWU Comeback Falls Short Against Hawks 8-5

PROVIDENCE, RI – A five-run fifth inning was the difference between the Johnson & Wales University softball team and Roger Williams University Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks defeated the Wildcats, 8-5.

Roger Williams: 9-11
Johnson & Wales: 8-10

Of Note:
Roger Williams sent nine runners to the plate in the third inning. Elizabeth Lombardo scored the second run of the frame on a wild pitch.

The Wildcats got a run in the fourth on a Kayla McKinnon groundout that scored Ally Mishol, but the Hawks responded with five runs off JWU starter Summer Ramundo. Amanda Boulter drove in a pair of runs with a double and Hailey Prechtel followed with a two-run single.

JWU got two runs back in the sixth when Brenna DuPerry delivered a double to score Saxon Bresnahan and McKinnon.

In the seventh, Kristin Frost led off with a solo home run. JWU got another run when Ramundo singled home Mishol and the tying run was on deck, but Alyssa Murray got the final two outs for the victory.

Prechtel got the win for the Hawks as she gave up three runs, one earned, on six hits with three strikeouts. Ramundo was saddled with the loss.
