NORTON, Mass. – A few big innings cost the Johnson & Wales University softball team in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader at Wheaton. The Wildcats dropped the first game, 7-5, the fell in game two, 5-2.
Johnson & Wales: 8-8
A Summer Ramundo single in the first opening the scoring, but the Lyons responded with two runs in the second and three more in third to chase Ramundo out of the game.
JWU got two back in the fourth when Ally Mishol cranked a two-run home run.
The Wildcats tried to mount a comeback in the seventh. Sierra Ali hit a one-out home run and an error allowed Megan Antaya to score. JWU had the tying run at the plate with one out, but Wheaton got the final two outs for the victory.
Gabby Farino hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning to score Mishol and tie the game at 1-1. Wheaton answered with three runs in its half of the third to build a 4-1 lead.
JWU's only other hit came in the fifth when Brenna DuPerry drove in Farino with a single.
JWU is back on the field Wednesday to face Roger Williams at 4 p.m.
