Wildcats Split to End Spring Break Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – Bouncing back has been a through line during spring break for the Johnson & Wales University softball team. The Wildcats dropped a 7-1 decision to Defiance on Saturday then wrapped up their week with a 4-0 shutout of Penn State Brandywine.

Johnson & Wales: 4-4

Statistical Leaders:
Brenna DuPerry (JWU):  1-2, 1 R, 1 RBI vs. PSU / 1-3, 1 R vs. DC
Kayla McKinnon (JWU): 1-2, 1 R, 1 RBI vs. PSU

Of Note:
Brenna DuPerry started game two with a single, moved up to second on a sacrifice and came around to score on a Jenna Conroy single.

JWU put the game away with a three-run fifth inning. Kayla McKinnon got the scoring started with a single to score Devin Scales. DuPerry wrapped up the scoring when she scored Shari Minalga with a sacrifice fly.

Kristin Frost threw a complete-game shutout to get her second win of the week. She surrendered three hits with seven strikeouts.

Defiance got a run in the first and three more in the third off JWU starter Summer Ramundo.

JWU got a run back in the sixth when Saxon Bresnahan singled-home DuPerry.

JWU is back on the road next week for the VA Wesleyan Beach Bash, including a contest with top-ranked and two-time defending national champion Virginia Wesleyan.
