Wildcats Split With NVU-Johnson & Cabrini

CLAREMONT, Fla. – The Johnson & Wales University softball team picked up its first victory of the season and just missed out on a sweep. The Wildcats started the day by toppling Northern Vermont University-Johnson, 16-0, before falling, 3-2, to Cabrini University on Wednesday.

Records:
Johnson & Wales: 1-3

Statistical Leaders:
Meghan Gavin: 1-1, 2 R vs. NVUJ;
Jenna Conroy: 1-2, 1 R, 3 RBI vs. NVUJ
Kristin Frost: 2-3, 1 R vs. CU
Summer Ramundo: 2-3, 2 RBI

Of Note:
JWU scored early and often against NVU-Johnson. Kristin Frost drove in a pair of runs with a first-inning single. A five-run second inning was capped by a two-run double from Kayla McKinnon.

Three-straight walks loaded the bases in the third then Jenna Conroy stroked a three-run double.

That was more than enough offense for Saxon Bresnahan to pick up the victory. She only gave up one hit with five strikeouts and one walk.

Meghan Gavin roped a two-out single in the top of the first against Cabrini. She stole second and third then came around to score on a Summer Ramundo RBI single.

The Cavaliers pulled ahead with two runs in the fifth, but the Wildcats answered in the sixth. Frost led off the sixth with a double then crossed the plate on a Ramundo double.

Unfortunately, for the second day in a row, the Wildcats lost in the seventh inning. Darian Caputo roped a game-winning, one-out triple in the bottom of the seventh.

Up Next:
The Wildcats will take Thursday off before getting back on the field Friday against RPI and Augustana.
