PROVIDENCE, RI – Consistent hitting and pitching led the Johnson & Wales University softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Mount Ida on Friday. The Wildcats won game one, 7-0, then took the nightcap, 7-1.

Johnson & Wales: 19-10, 15-2 GNAC
JWU got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when left fielder Kristin Frost belted a solo home run.
Mount Ida errors contributed to JWU's runs in the third. Kayla McKinnon's fly ball was dropped in left field, allowing Tiffani Semanchik to score. Alex Fantasia followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Ally Mishol then McKinnon scored on Brenna DuPerry's single.
Pitcher Jennifer Corona helped her own cause with an RBI single in the fifth then Semanchik scored for the second time on a Mishol double. Corona struck out nine batters as she threw her fourth complete-game shutout of the year to improve to 9-6. The Mustangs' Carrigan Costello gave up four runs, one earned, to take the loss.
Johnson & Wales scored in its first four at-bats of game two. Katie Rufo delivered an RBI single in the first to score Frost then roped a double off the right field fence to plate Frost and DuPerry in the second. She hammered her league-leading sixth home run of the year in the fourth.
Frost gave up one run on two hits in five innings of work to improve to 6-0. Mount Ida starter Madeleine Smith took the loss, giving up all seven runs on 11 hits.
Johnson & Wales continues conference play Saturday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Simmons.
