Wildcats Fall Twice at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University softball team lost a close decision in game one at MIT then couldn't keep up with the Engineers' offense in game two. The Wildcats lost 2-1 in the opener and 9-1 in game two on Tuesday.

MIT: 23-4-1
Johnson & Wales: 17-10

Of Note:
The Wildcats got the first run of the game in the sixth inning. Ally Mishol reached on a fielder's choice then moved up on a wild pitch. Kayla McKinnon's single scored Mishol from second.

JWU was one out away from victory, but a fielding error allowed the tying run to score. Sarah Von Ahn delivered a one-out hit in the eighth to give the Engineers the victory. Pitcher Jennifer Corona was saddled with the loss despite giving up only two unearned runs with five strikeouts.

MIT got out to a quick lead in game two with three runs in the first and five more in the second off starter Noelle Weiss and reliever MJ Bourgeois.

Katie Rufo was the only player to pick up a hit in both games. She added an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning of game two.

The Wildcats get back into conference action Friday when they host Mount Ida in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
