Softball Sweeps Lasers For 10th-Straight Win

NEWTON, Mass. – Eight runs 14 innings apart gave the Johnson & Wales University softball team a doubleheader sweep of Lasell on Tuesday. The Wildcats defeated the Lasers 8-0 in game one then rallied to win game two, 4-2.

Of Note:
Trailing by a pair of runs going into the top of seventh, pinch hitter Katie Rufo tied the game with a two-run double that scored Tiffani Semanchik and Meghan Gavin. Ally Mishol brought home the eventual winning run with a single that allowed Sheyann Goodwin to cross the plate.

Pitcher MJ Bourgeois tripled to score Mishol then finished the game in the circle to get the first collegiate victory of her career. She gave up one run on three hits with five strikeouts.

Johnson & Wales wasted no time in getting on the board in game one with four runs in the top of the first. Starting pitcher Jennifer Corona helped her own cause with a double to score Tiffani Semanchik then scored on Mishol's single.

Semanchik had a single in the first inning of game one and another in the seventh inning of game two to push her hitting streak to 16 games.

Corona only allowed two hits in throwing her second shutout in a row. She has not surrendered a run in her last 17 innings.

Rufo picked up her third hit of the game in the fourth inning with a triple – the first of her collegiate career – to score Goodwin.
