STANDISH, Maine - The men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship on Saturday afternoon and took home a seventh and eighth place finish, respectively.
The men were paced by senior Nick Pereira who finished the 8k race in 30:23, 11 seconds ahead of teammate Matt Ursillo who came in at 30:34. Three first-year runners for the Wildcats crossed the finish line in the next two and a half minutes span. Owen Eubanks clocked in at 31:22, good for 49th place, Nathan Malorzo trailed him by four seconds with a time of 31:26 while Marc Anthony Chavez crossed the line in 60th with a time of 32:54. Nathan Pasquarello was the last Wildcat to collect points in the team standings with a time of 34:06, a 69th place finish.
The women's team had a top-25 finish by junior Kaylan Dunham. Dunham finished the first ever 6k championship course on the women's side in 26:41, good for 23rd place overall. A pair of first-year runners in Haley Chaykowski-Jewett and Claire Livernois ended the race in 52nd and 53rd place, respectively. Chaykowski-Jewett crossed at 29:10 while Livernois finished in 29:18. Ellie Aliperti registered a time of 32:11, good for 79th while Jules Thompson rounded out the scorers for JWU with a time of 32:26.
The Wildcats will take part in the NCAA New England regional hosted by Bowdoin on November 16th to close out the season.
