Cross Country Competes at Tri-State Championship

LINCOLN, RI - It was a virtual home meet Saturday for the Johnson & Wales University cross country teams. The Wildcats went up the road to the CCRI Lincoln campus for the Tri State Championship where the women placed fourth and the men took fifth.

The women finished with 118 points, ahead of Nichols College and behind third placed Salve Regina University. While the JWU men's team scored 153 points, trailing behind Connecticut College and beating out Salve Regina by 15 points. Trinity College placed first in both the men's and women's races.

Leading the way for the women's team was Kaylan Dunham placing 25th with a time of 22:08.90. She was followed by first-years Claire Livernoise and Haley Chaykowski crossing the line just 15 seconds apart at 24:15.70 and 24:31.80 to finish in 43rd and 46th. Next was Kayleigh Kearny finishing in 53rd at 26:17.40. Rounding out the top five on the team was Amelia Warfer in 54th place with a time of 26:17.40

The men finished strong and in a pack, as the top four runners all finished within 25 seconds of each other. Leading the charge was Zach Curry in 33rd place at 29:55.80, followed closely by Matthew Ursillo in 34th at 30:00.40. Next, in 36th place was Nick Pereira crossing the line at 30:17.20 and then Nathan Malorzo at 30:20.00.

Johnson & Wales competes in the James Early Invitational next Saturday October 12.
