The 2019 season will be a year of growth for Johnson & Wales University cross country under the leadership of Coach Hollie Walton.
Coach Walton returns for his 25th season and is optimistic and hopeful about the youth and talent of this 2019 squad. After a 2018 season inundated with injuries, the Wildcats are looking forward to a fresh start with a large freshman class eager to make an impact.
Last season's top runners for the men's program, Matt Ursillo, Nick Pereira and Brent Giles return, looking to build off last season's times. As a team the men placed 7th in the GNAC Championship race, Matthew Ursillo led the pack with a 31:56 time in the 7k race.
While the women will be returning their top runners, Kaylan Dunham, Tori Finch, and Julia Thompson, all looking to improve on last years scores. The women placed 8th in the GNAC Championship race with Kaylan Dunham finishing the 5k race in 20:40.
Coach Walton says his squad is "here and ready to excel in the classroom and on the trail while trying to enjoy the ride."
The Wildcats will open their season Saturday, September 7, competing in the Trinity Invitational at Wickham Park, the women's race is set to start at 10:30 a.m. while the men will start at 11:10 a.m.
