
BRISTOL, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's and women's cross country teams opened their season at the Roger Williams Invitational at Colt State Park. Both teams placed fourth.
The women scored 100 points to come in behind Bridgewater State and ahead of Eastern Nazarene. JWU men's squad tallied 117 points. Salve Regina won the women's race while BSU was the men's' winner.
Cracking the top-25 of the men's 5k race was newcomer Matthew Ursillo as he recorded a time of 19:47.6 in his collegiate debut. He was closely followed by sophomore Cole Geraghty (20:24.6), senior Alex Nathan (20:29.1), and Nick Pereira (20:52.0).
Three Wildcats finished in the top-25 of the women's two-mile race, led by sophomore Kaylan Dunham with a 12th-place time of 13:28.4. Sophomore Katie Fiorella and freshman Vanessa Bueti were next at 14:06.1 and 14:24.0, respectively.
The Wildcats are back on the trail next Saturday, September 8, at the Trinity Invitational in Wickham Park.
