DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Every year the UMass Dartmouth Invitational attracts some of the best teams in New England. Competing against Division I, II and III teams, the Johnson & Wales University cross country teams held their own against a tough field.
The women finished 29th with 752 points, finishing just 12 points back of Mount Holyoke. The men placed just behind Emerson in 32nd place, but did beat out Clark.
The men's team had its first time out on an 8k course. Leading the JWU contingency was Cole Geraghty (Bogota, N.J.) with a time of 28:02.80. Senior David Sherman (Yarmouthport, Mass.) ran his fastest 8k time in over two years with a 29:10.73. Next across the line was Alex Nathan (Beachwood, Ohio) at 32:04.07. Nick Pereira (Franklin, Mass.) was next at 34:07.20 followed by Alex Prusky in 34:08.017.
The women's team had a number of runners improve their times from last week's race. The biggest improvement came from Kaylan Dunham (Manassas, Va.) as she cut two minutes to post a 20:14.13 that was tops on the team. Victoria Barlow (Riverhead, N.Y.) sliced nine seconds off her time to cross the line in 20:31.55. Third on the team was Ayanna Mitchell (Dingsman Ferry, Pa.) with a time of 21:37.80. Alison King (San Diego, Calif.) knocked 1:44 off her time to run a 22:45.69 and Hannah Blossom (Westchester, Pa.) was over a minute faster with her time of 23:10.07
The Blazer Invitational is next on the docket for JWU, hosted by Elms on September 23.
