Sachs Wins GNAC Championship, JWU Places Third

BOSTON – Last season Johnson & Wales University men's cross country runner Adam Sachs was upset in his bid to win back-to-back GNAC championships. The senior made sure his last GNAC race ended with a title as he captured the conference crown on Saturday at Franklin Park.  

As a team, the Wildcats placed third with a total of 79 points. Norwich won the title with 21 points while Emmanuel was second at 69 points.

Sachs (Ellicott City, Md.) cruised to his third victory of the season, winning the event by 15 seconds with a time of 26:16. He was named GNAC Men's Runner of the Year.

JWU had three more runners finish inside the top 25. Alex Melnick (Port Jervis, NY) was next across the line in 15th at 28:16. Senior Brandon Au (Oxford, Conn.) placed 22nd at 29:02 while David Sherman (Yarmouthport, Mass.) ran 29:21 to take 25th. Freshman Mike Jones (Wallkill, NY) rounded out the JWU scorers, coming in 34th at 30:27.

The Wildcats run their final meet of the year when they travel to the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Westfield, Mass. on November 12.
