WINTHROP, Mass. – Defense was a big key to the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team's rally to beat Geneva in five sets last weekend at the Golden Flyer Invitational. Senior middle blocker Josh Pitzer was a big part of the comeback and earned GNAC Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office.
It's the second time Pitzer has earned the award with the first honor coming on April 7, 2019. Wentworth's Alex McLane was named Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week.
During a 4-0 weekend at the Golden Flyer Invitational, the North Kingstown, RI native averaged 1.00 blocks per set. He had a season-high eight rejections in the win over Geneva, including a stuff on match point. Offensively, he chipped in with 1.29 kills per set while hitting .360.
The Wildcats get back into GNAC play on Tuesday when it travels to Regis for a 6 p.m. contest.
