PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team wrapped up the JWU Tip Off Tournament on Saturday. The Wildcats got the day started by beating Keuka College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-16), but couldn't pull off their second upset in as many days, falling to #3 Stevens, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-23).
Johnson & Wales: 2-5
All three sets of the Keuka match were close until the midway point when the Wildcats pulled away.
Johnson & Wales hit a season-high .347 while limiting the Wolves to .082.
JWU also had a 36-24 advantage in digs and produced eight blocks.
Five different Wildcats had four or more kills, topped by Jack Pincince with eight.
An error in the opening set against Stevens pulled the Wildcats within 7-4, but the Ducks answered with a 7-1 run. SU's Louden Moran single-handedly took JWU out of the second set with seven aces as part of a 9-0 Stevens run to start the set.
Jonny Trail's kill got the Wildcats within 23-21 in the third set, but two JWU errors ended the match.
The Ducks hit .403 while limiting the Wildcats to a .119 rate.
Johnson & Wales starts GNAC play on Tuesday when the Wildcats travel to Emmanuel for a 7 p.m. contest.
